FLORIDA SHERIFFS YOUTH RANCHES
HORSE DONATIONS
Three of the four residential programs of the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches have horses on campus. The Youth Villa in Bartow and the Youth Ranch in Bradenton keep a few horses for the youth to ride. The Boys Ranch in Live Oak has an extensive herd used for riding as well as working livestock. The youth are involved in caring for the horses as well as training them for work and competition.
The Youth Ranches accepts donations of quality horses to improve their herd as well as to sell. Proceeds from the sale of horses are used to further the programs for the children in care.
Because of the high cost of fuel, feed and veterinarian care for the horses, we must be selective in accepting horses for donations. Horses selected must be sound and able to ride. They should be suitable for riding for pleasure and/or working livestock.
Some criteria for acceptance are:
